Jesus walks on water

22. Jesus in hurry

  • Get into the boat – Disciples are safe in the boat than in the storm – because the crowd plans to make Jesus king
    • Purpose of God is important than the plan ( God has purpose but devil has plans)
    • Purpose is for a lifelong achievements but the plans are just for a short time.
  • Sent both the crowds and disciples
    • Did Jesus send the disciples in the evening ? Yes. but he is still visit someone who is ready and dine with him if they open the door for him (Rev. 3:20)
    • Jesus provided and protected – Disciples and crowds
  • Jesus sent them
    • Jesus did not send them with empty hands
    • Jesus send them with enough food (Not sure they carried those) Matt.14:13
    • Jesud Himself did not go with them. But the WORD, He send with them… (Jesus might have spoken them “Go ahead of me OR let us meet on the other side OR See you there”)

23. After…alone

  • After He had sent them away – He is perfect in what he does – A role model of a leader is not simple commands but observe and works towards its fulfillment.
  • Mountain – In the Word of God – Mountain is a place for heavenly enlightenment and encounters – Mountain is a place of sacrifice and worship.
  • From the mountain Jesus could have seen the boat on the sea…
  • Prayer – Does Jesus need to pray ? Did He pray for the disciples ? – Not sure about all these are true. It is sure that he is not taking rest. No one could question Him if He takes rest.
  • Alone – Alone in prayer ? when we pray we will have next person to assist to pray Holy Spirit. So “Alone” in prayer is physically true but spitiutally can not.

24. But…….contrary.

  • None of the disciples requested Jesus to come with them. Like Moses sought His presence
  • None of the disciples are prayed and had faith.
  • Disciples are not worried or afraid of the storms because they used to.

25. “And in the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea.

  • Fourth watch of the night – 3:00 AM – 6:00 AM
  • Jesus comes to them in their storms – Physical presence of Jesus (Isa. 43:2 “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you”)
  • Jesus might have walked many miles to reach near to them – Jesus takes effort to reach to His beloved no matter what situation there are facing.
  • Jesus was walking to them by stepping on the water reminds that the very thing they feared is under the feet of Jesus.
  • Jesus can take any way to reach them – He might even fly to reach to them. Or don’t even come over there just calm the storm from the mountain. Remember He is in prayer the best time to exercise His authority.
  • Jesus’ aim is not exercise His authority but elevate faith of His disciples

26.When the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out in fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” Peter said to Him, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” And He said, “Come!” And Peter got out of the boat, and walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But seeing the wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” When they got into the boat, the wind stopped. And those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “You are certainly God’s Son!””
