Living in the Spirit

Galatians 5:25 If we live by Spirit, let us also walk by spirit.

How do we live by Spirit?

  • We need a habitat to live, and any time we move away from the habitat, our existence will be challenged.
  • “The flesh refers to God’s originally perfect creation, which is now mortal and in decay as result of sin entering the world through Adam (Rom 5:12). The spirit is the essence of who we are, the part of us that lives on after our physical bodies die.” [1]

What is the Spirit?

  • God as our creator, designed us to live our lives in and through the Holy Spirit
  • Holy Spirit is God Himself.
  • We must live in and by the Holy Spirit – ? Can we live without the Holy Spirit – Certainly, the life without the Holy Spirit is living in the flesh. We won’t have life in God and will never enjoy the Spiritual Blessings and promises of God. Ultimately we are dying spiritually. [2]
  • Human being has three inseparable entities unites to function =>
    • Body – helps to communicate with others (other human beings)
    • Soul – helps to communicate with self – we can talk to ourselves
    • Spirit – Spirit helps to communicate with God – God can speak to our spirit. Holy Spirit relates to our spirit.
  • Living is not an occasional activity, but it is a dwelling forever in Spirit.

How do we walk by Spirit?

  • By walking by the Spirit, we will not fulfill the desires of the flesh. The flesh always tends towards sin, but walking by the Spirit avoids sin, which was our fallen human nature.
  • Spirit-filled life is entirely opposite to the flesh filled life. Flesh and Spirit are enemies, but the flesh becomes a slave when we submit to obey and walk in the Spirit.
  • Walking is steps of actions by the choices of our mind – the same way walling in Spirit is the step of action by the obedience of the Holy Spirit.
  • Our will is not strong enough (see Romans 7:15-20). We need all of God’s strength to live as He has designed us to live. That’s why we now have a responsibility, and a necessity to obey the Holy Spirit (see Romans 8:13). [3]
  • The way we walk every day will be the way we live. So we can not live by Spirit until we determined to walk in the Spirit.
  • The death of the flesh is the life of the Spirit. If God’s Spirit lives in us, let Him govern all our actions’. [4] When a person born again, He decides to die for the flesh which is completely against the desires of the flesh.
  • “…by “flesh” is the human ability to put self in place of God, to resist God’s Spirit.”[5]
